i'm a newbie, but i need to compile gnomad2

i read the sicky guide, http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=1590,
but gnomad2 doesn't appear when i do
finde /var/abs/ -iname "*gnomad2*"
i know from where i can get it, but where do i put it? that's why i stopped
because downloading the pkgbuild, uncompress it and then what?
another point, the folder /var/abs/local doesn't exist, should i create it or i need to run some command?
correct me if i'm wrong, but if i

[root@limbo root]# groupadd abs
[root@limbo root]# usermod -G users,slocate,abs juan

[root@limbo root]# chown root.abs /var/abs/local
[root@limbo root]# chmod 775 /var/abs/local

in the guide, it seems that the author made all the process from the ~/aterm folder, just doing some links an applying permissions?
sorry for these dum topic, but i'm new on this distro

i read i can compile just like in debian/ubuntu
i was tryng, but i never understood what it meant
install the program not on /usr,  do it on $startdir/pkg/usr"
those are my doubts
thanks

Re: i'm a newbie, but i need to compile gnomad2

As you may have noticed, that thread dates from 2003. I'm not even sure why it's sticky anymore.

Anyway, read about ABS in the wiki: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ABS … ild_System
After you've absorbed that, go to the AUR, where you will find a PKGBUILD for gnomad2. Read the AUR User Guidelines, and build your package.

Re: i'm a newbie, but i need to compile gnomad2

i read that
but like i said, i don't want to install gnomad2 with makepkg, just with ./configure make & make install
the wiki says that must be installed the program not in /usr
the other point is i don't know if i should create a folder on /var/abs/local called gnomad2...
the example cited i don't understand it very good

Re: i'm a newbie, but i need to compile gnomad2

i dont understand, makepkg would do the same as what you want but allow you to upgrade/uninstall a lot easier than make && make install, if you want to install it to a different directory just tell it to do so

Re: i'm a newbie, but i need to compile gnomad2

If you don't want to use makepkg, just go ahead and do the manual install. Specify whatever directory you want as the install location, and ignore /var/abs, the wiki, and anything else to do with ABS. smile

The link you gave was called 'makepkg/abs tutorial', so I thought you wanted to use makepkg.
