FreeNX does not work

I've been trying off and on all day to get FreeNX server running on my desktop.  Following the instructions per the wiki, it does not work.  When using the nomachine method for authentication I get an error about nxserver not running.  nxserver --status says otherwise.  When I try nxserver with SSH authentication I get an error about the key being corrupted or password protected.  Any ideas?  Following the wiki's instructions step by step does not work at all for me.

What is the text of the errors you are seeing?  What are the permissions of the NX key and it's directory? /opt/NX/home/nx/.ssh?

I have this working between 2 arch boxes with no problem (well one unrelated one!)
