upgrade broke my system - dependencies out of date?

Last night I did a pacman -Syu which worked fairly well...  except that upon reboot X wouldn't start.  In the end I worked through 3 problems:

* Had to "pacman -S libxcb"
* Had to "pacman -S gcc-lib"
* Had to "pango-querymodules > /etc/pango/pango.modules"

I don't know why the pango one happened, but I have a strong suspicion that libxcb is a fairly new package split out from some other xorg package recently, and I suspect the same with gcc-lib (there was a forum topic http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=13652 suggesting this a while back).

Does this mean that the dependency lists of some packages are now out of date?  And should the pango install script run pango-querymodules now, or was this some weird problem only on my system?
