nvidia 5500 makes my computer crash

I tried posting this in the newbie forum but it received no response, so I'm trying it here.  I got a new video card, the geforce 5500, and when I put it in, arch will not boot all the way, just gets to loading udev devices or whatever and restarts the computer.  Why can't I use my video card?

How old is your computer? What GFX card did you use before? My bet is that your power supply and/or mainboard can't handle the Geforce.

well my computer's pretty new, it's less than a year old, and i was using the onboard before.  if my computer can't handle it that sucks.  new power supply then?

Well I got a new power supply and it's still having the same problem.  To see if my system could handle it I installed windows xp and it worked fine there.  Again, it restarts at loading uDev events.  I really want to be able to use my video card. What's going on here?

Re: nvidia 5500 makes my computer crash

I don't mean to bump an old(er) topic, but I'm having the same issues with an GeForce 6200.  The only thing I have been able to figure out is that if MOD_AUTOLOAD is set to "no", it will boot.  So -- I'm assuming that an autoloaded module is causing the problems, thus blacklisting that module would fix things. But,  I'm not sure which one to try and blacklist.  mrblondisback -- does setting MOD_AUTOLOAD = "no" help things at all? Or~ have you figured anything else out yet?
