Why is this? I actually like Knetworkmanager better, but it won't recognize my wireless device.
My card is a 3945ABG with ndiswrapper, and knetworkmanager works fine when nm-applet(from gnome) is running.
The only thing is, nm-applet can't seem to connect to networks with a low signal (most importantly my university's), but when I start both of them, they connect at the same time, as if they're helping each other.
Yes, my user is in the network group.
If you need any additional information let me know.
Cheers
PS: In case you haven't noticed, i want to keep knetworkmanager

Networkmanager has been fighting me for about a week. I have all but given up on it, since I found wlassistant, which has been working fine for a day so far.
If it keeps giving me reliable operation I will just stick to wlassistant and permanently give up on networkmamager.
The only feature that I find lacking so far is the ability to rank my desired SSID's in order of preference: every time I turn my laptop on, it connects to whatever network it chooses.

I switched from ndiswrapper to the linux native module ipw3945 and now the problem seems to be gone. Let's hope so
