Re: Stability

My desktop suffers from kernel panics sometimes (like twice in a month) but I'm quite sure this is due to proprietary drivers (fglrx) because mostly I get some creepy messages about fglrx mapping wrong memory before such a panic.
So a server (which shouldn't use drivers like this) shouldn't be affected and if you do need graphics you can use stable open source alternatives (which aren't suitable for me).

Re: Stability

In > 1 year's time, I have had zero crashes on any of 3 machines. Couple broken packages after an update, like hplip and one other one which I can't remember. This is for desktop usage, and constant fiddling. wink
Some people don't recommend Arch for servers, some people do.. Thing is, an admin will have to change his approach for every distro. Adminning a Slackware server takes a different approach than adminning a Gentoo or Debian server, for instance.
Arch tends to be quite bleeding edge, which means constant updates. You may want to keep this in mind and improvise accordingly.
