Kernel panic after update

Hi

I updated my kernel to 2.6.23.1-3 yesterday and eventually all went fine, but today when I boot my computer, I get a kernel panic "not syncing, kinit not found". Fallback works and mkinitcpio -p kernel26 terminates successfully...
I haven't changed anything in my mkinitcpio.conf, all is empty except for hooks:

HOOKS="base udev autodetect pata sata filesystems"

Does anyone know hiw this initrd can suddenly make my kernel panic?

EDIT: I've seen this bug that seems somewhat related, although I don't get any error on mkinitcpio and zcat /boot/kernel26.img | cpio -tv runs without errors here.
