[SOLVED]After pacman -Syu, network and mouse are not working.

Hi,

TodayI upgrade my arch with the command "pacman -Syu", and I rebooted.
After that, my network card does not work, and mouse pointer does not move....

/var/error.log is following:

Oct 24 00:27:44 arch-slime dhcpcd[3334]: eth0: ioctl SIOCGIFHWADDR: No such device
Oct 24 00:27:47 arch-slime ntpd[3404]: getaddrinfo: "ntp.tut.ac.jp" invalid host address, ignored
Oct 24 00:30:02 arch-slime dhcpcd[3329]: eth0: ioctl SIOCGIFHWADDR: No such device
Oct 24 00:30:04 arch-slime ntpd[3397]: getaddrinfo: "ntp.tut.ac.jp" invalid host address, ignored
Oct 24 00:37:19 arch-slime dhcpcd[3538]: you need to be root to run dhcpcd
Oct 24 00:37:35 arch-slime dhcpcd[3539]: eth0: ioctl SIOCGIFHWADDR: No such device
Oct 24 00:38:51 arch-slime dhcpcd[3320]: eth0: ioctl SIOCGIFHWADDR: No such device

Oct 24 00:50:56 arch-slime ntpd[3398]: getaddrinfo: "ntp.tut.ac.jp" invalid host address, ignored

It seems to be no error about my mouse....

hummm...

Before upgrading, there are no problems.
I do not know what I should do...

Now, I am writing this post with Zenwalk..

Re: [SOLVED]After pacman -Syu, network and mouse are not working.

I don't have any problems like this, but sometimes if you wait a long time before upgrading the system you can have problems. If you remember the date you did the upgrade that broke your systen, you can look at /var/log/pacman.log that shows the packages that were upgraded. It could give some clues as to what package/packages that may have caused your problems.

Once I had a problem that I couldn't sort out, and as a last resort, I booted from the arch ftp install cd and ran through a base install over my already installed system, after making sure I didn't format my partitions, but only mounting them. It shouldn't overwrite any configuration files, but I checked them to make sure. I skiped the root password and bootloader part of the install. Basically I just upgraded base. It fixed my broblem. I would only do that as a last resort.

Re: [SOLVED]After pacman -Syu, network and mouse are not working.

Thank you for your reply, Leigh.

I could fix my problem without overwriting packages.
In this time, the cause of my problem was what I forgot to update lilo.

After boot from Zenwalk, I used command 'lilo -v' on the terminal, then I rebooted.
After reboot from ArchLinux, all problem was fixed.

Best regards.
