involuntary power saving?

This problem has been bothering me for a while and I've been disregarding it until now since it's been causing a greater problem (disconnecting my wireless). The system seems to go into some involuntary power saving mode that puts the monitor in standby (power button on the monitor turns orange). Is this some kind of kernel feature that can be disabled? I assume that it is related to the kernel since this also occurs in the console.

I've tried using "acpi=off" with grub, but that doesn't seem to do the trick. The bios has the option for me to enable speedstep, but I don't need it. Aside from that, I am not aware of any power saving features that are enabled.

Re: involuntary power saving?

Comment out Option "DPMS" in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Don't know why that would kill your wireless, though...

Re: involuntary power saving?

nope, that didn't work

like I said, this also occurs in the actual terminal (i.e. when X is not running)
