Hey, I'm trying to install arch under virtualbox and it's not working. I'm getting this error: Your cpu does not support long mode. Use 32bit distribution. I have downloaded the x86/64 base ISO.
My laptop specs as follow:
Intel centrino 1.7ghz
512mb ddr-ram
Erm, I guess that's enough information? I'm giving arch 128mb of rams, and 8mb of video ram in virtualbox. Any ideas on how to solve this?
Many thanks.

To mess up a Linux box, you need to work at it; to mess up your Windows box, you just have to work on it.

I don't know much about Virtualbox, so maybe my question is the result of my ignorance, but you do realize that you're trying to install a 64bit version of Arch on a 32bit computer, right?

erm, isn't Archlinux-x86_64-2007.08-2.core.iso this a 32/64bit version?

No, the one you mention is the 64bit version. 32bit version is actually called i686. Kinda confusing, I guess

Owh man, my first nightmare. Now I have to wait like 5 hours to download the correct version ... I hate my connection *Sighs*

I think this is 64bit version, download i686 iso instead, I had it ever run under virtualbox.

You're lucky it's not a DVD You can try the FTP install if you need it quickly - the download should be smaller, and you'll probably end up saving some bandwidth that way in the long run since you'll get the latest versions of packages already during installation that way...
Anyways, have fun playing with Arch!
