BELNET repository bananas.

Since a few days the "ftp.belnet.be" mirror requires an id and pw, which I do not have.
Maybe time to look somewhere else.(Skynet?)

Re: BELNET repository bananas.

Hey, same problem, but just found this on http://www.belnet.be/en/nieuws2.php?upn … euwsnr=417:

BELNET FTP server upgrade

For years, the BELNET FTP server (ftp.belnet.be) has been the reference as electronic archives for publicly available software and documents. More than 2 terabytes of data is downloaded daily.

The FTP server is presently being upgraded. Supported by a SAN infrastructure, storage capacity is being substantially upgraded (from 3.5 Tbytes to 30 Tbytes). The network connectivity of the FTP server is being increased to 10 Gbits/s. Finally, a cluster of a 10 front-end machines is being installed to function as user interface.

The updated FTP server infrastructure will be operational by the end of this year.

Re: BELNET repository bananas.

I couldn't imagine them going away anyway. They've simply been too serious about it, friggin big SUN servers, rsync... way to go.

Thanks for the heads-up. I have sent a mail to their support address asking for clarification, and I will post here if/when I get a response.

I was a bit surprised too to see pacman bork last night... Switched to a Dutch server too.

you might try one of the regional mirrors for the UK listed on the http://archlinux.org/download/ page.

Re: BELNET repository bananas.

+1

i was also using belnet since my university is connected through their network, and it worked very well, with very high download speeds.

for the moment, i have uncommented surfnet.nl (which is afaik the dutch equivalent of belnet) mirror in my pacman.d

Reply from Belnet Support:

Hello Tom,

We are currently facing a hardware problem with
our ftp server we are working hard on it to put
online again.

Regards

Philippe Van Hecke.

Crooksey - thanks to floke, there is a new UK mirror that you can try. You could also look at heanet, which is probably as close to you as belnet.

Could you share the support email adress for belnet.be ?

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Re: BELNET repository bananas.

ftp.belnet.be is up again, but most of mirror folders are still empty, including the archlinux one.

It looks like they are busy resyncing (currently they are working in gentoo) so we should be able to switch back soon.
