Re: Arch Linux Logo Contest: Discussion of logo concepts

The inherent problem with pixel art is that it must be scaled at specific ratios.  As is evidenced by the 128x logo you display above, the shapes aren't equally scaled like they are in the full size image.  All that aside though, I do like the retro look of pixel art... reminds me of my Amiga days.

@phrakture

Thoughts on your submission: yes... yes this is it... go with this!  big_smile
My question is: how would you incorporate Shera's presence into the new website? Or is Arch simply going to ignore the Princess of Power? lol

Nice to see another humorous entry put into the mix.... brilliant smile

Re: Arch Linux Logo Contest: Discussion of logo concepts

i think phrakture's submission is amazing. the only thing i would have done different was use the image with the questionable hand position instead (in the unofficial skelator avatar thread).  +1 phrakture. +1.

I totally agree. smile

By the way, I think we got a bit off topic again... Don't think it really matters anymore, since today was the last day for new submissions.

Fair enough. I'll stick with it then. Saves a bit of work.

Or... wait... is that because you think it'll be easier to beat? Hmm... wink

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the funniest bit of phrakture's submission; take a close look at the icon set...

You got me, dunc. It's because you can't possibly beat me with blue. Muwhahahah! big_smile

Nah, it's nothing like that. It's just that you brainwashed me with your ava, and I can't 'feel' it in different colors. wink

As for Aaron's submission, do you mean the fact that he intentionally failed to fill in the last two? I still think the funniest thing is the He-Man Wuss artwork. big_smile

Maybe it is. It really depends on how the last day of the 2 weeks are treated. In short, if the last day is the day when it should have arrived or if the last day is the day when you still could make a new submission. And I haven't even taken the time zones into count! To many sources of errors!! smile

Actually, since the announcement went out late, I was going to accept submissions up to the end-of-day tomorrow. (ie. 23:59 Thursday, November 08, Eastern Standard Time.)

Provided that the BBS is localized, I rely on the date of the first post in Submissions thread, which says (here where I live) October 25th, Thursday.

Re: Arch Linux Logo Contest: Discussion of logo concepts

Hate to be the one to say this but, I saw this logo at a Sony Store. The logo was almost identical the only difference was that it was italic style and orange. I'm searching to see if I find this on the net, but haven't had any chance. Can anyone go to a Sony store and verify this? I got a suggestion from my girlfriend that I should have took a picture with my cell phone, but I was leaving and weren't going back since I had an exam at University.

That's the sony alpha logo, trademarked for their newest line of digital SLR cameras.

You probably mean for those cameras.  Yeah, it's an alpha... might cause problems.
