Re: Arch Linux Logo Contest: Discussion of logo concepts

Heya tradiaz, actually that's my "Alpha" logo you are referring to.  fwojciec tweaked the colours to make them more tango-like.  I decided not to submit that particular logo in the contest because of some comments from the Arch developers.  But just so you know, the contest closed over a week ago so no more submissions will be accepted.  Thanks for the compliments though and I'm glad you like the design smile

Re: Arch Linux Logo Contest: Discussion of logo concepts

If were going to change the logo then here are my votes:

#15 arnaudmz http://www.archlinux.org/~travis/logo-c … udmz/1.png
#20 Thayer http://www.archlinux.org/~travis/logo-c … malist.png
#37 Boogie http://www.archlinux.org/~travis/logo-c … ogie/1.png
#36 PSEB http://www.archlinux.org/~travis/logo-c … pseb/1.png

well, that does it. May the best logo win.

@fuxbunny:  I absolutely love your design with the crowned penguin. Would you maybe be so kind and send me a wallpaper of the design in your submission? I would need 1280x800. This would be so cool schmoove@gmx.de

I agree. I'm sure it must be a top contender in the contest. Even if it doesn't win, it should be a wallpaper.

Someone said the penguin is looking arrogant, I think he is looking proud! and that's what archlinux should be, too.

Re: Arch Linux Logo Contest: Discussion of logo concepts

I've thought it over and over... It's not a good logo. I mean, it's not a bad logo either, but it's not so much a logo as a nice graphic. I'm glad you liked it, though. I'll send you the wallpaper soon.

When do we have to expect the result of the vote?

Yes, it's taking a bit long.  We're discussing things.  It'll get done when it gets done.

Re: Arch Linux Logo Contest: Discussion of logo concepts

I admit it would be nice to know which 3 candidates received the highest votes, so that other candidates can go ahead and release their work under an open license and let people get on with their theming.  I've turned down a number of requests for source SVG files because of the current license restrictions.

Similar to the nature of open source software, I also think the process of finding possible trademark conflicts would be completed much sooner if more members of the community could be active in the search.

I'm not trying to rush the devs, but I *am* trying to streamline the process and keep this ball rolling.

"Shortly" as in within the next day or two - gotta draft an announcement and get it approved and all that jazz.  Just FYI so we don't get a ton of people going 'refresh refresh refresh where's the announcement!?"

Re: Arch Linux Logo Contest: Discussion of logo concepts

uh oh, you've given an actual timeframe... you'll probably regret that wink
I always assume "shortly" means "it's done when it's done"

Reversing the logic in that sentence must mean that Duke Nukem Forever will be released shortly. cool

Oooh, exciting! big_smile

(Not that I should get my hopes up: that would be the perfect Christmas present, wouldn't it? "dunc: 0 votes. Nobody voted for your designs. Any of them. In fact, several devs had to seek medical attention after looking at them, and are still out of action. For their future safety, your IP address has been blocked from downloading graphics software from all Arch servers. Please, for the love of God, take up some other interest. Have you ever thought of trainspotting?" No, I'll just forget all about it until the announcement.)

It is good to see that dunc has this strong sense of self-consciousness, or shall I say "self-irony"? But anyway - two sides of the same coin, aren't they?

Hmm that one "Archer" was not my favorite, but I realy like it.
I think best way to integrate new logo is with next ArchLinux release. New kernel and new logo same day.

Re: Arch Linux Logo Contest: Discussion of logo concepts

We got a nice logo, and now we have an odd one sad

Sad, really sad... there's no reason to choose a new logo if we hadn't got a better idea. And as seen the results and the proposals, we hadn't.
