possibly bug in udev?

okay so i've been away from arch for a while, you could say i was exploring other possibilities. anyway i came back yesterday, downloaded the latest iso (Don't Panic), got it all set up no problems. i did notice however that on booting up the Starting Udev uevents took a lot longer than i remember from the past (same computer). it took around 20 seconds, which seemed extreme. anyway after getting all set up i looked around a bit, and tried to disable modules autoload so that i could load the modules i wanted in the modules array (rc.conf). anyway this didnt change a thing, and i found that even when modules autoload was disabled and i had no modules in the modules array, it would still hang on Starting Udev uevents for around 15 seconds. does this not sound bizarre?

10-30 seconds are standard, nothing to worry about.

Re: possibly bug in udev?

depends on your hardware. My 448MHz laptop takes about 20seconds to get through udev. my sempron 3100 takes about 7seconds

w$, winblows, and windoze gets old. Quickly

Re: possibly bug in udev?

jackapacka> I've had this problem since my first installation of Arch. I think it has something to do with the modules that udev are loading. I haven't not found a solution for it.

The strange thing is that my old acer 333mhz pentium II travelmate boots a lot quicker (20 SECS quicker) than my 1 ghz celeron coppermine toshiba satellite.

Which pci drivers are you using? I have a hunch it has something to do with these, because I once compiled my own kernel with these drivers integrated and the problem dissappeared. I forget enable framebuffer on that one though - or something like that.

Here's mine:

Re: possibly bug in udev?

it always depends on your hardware you ahve and it's time for initialisation.
every subsystem can delay, mostly usb, scsi, ata and such.
