Can this be a good alternative for our JRE woes? It seems the Ubuntu community is adopting this.

I would be interested in seeing that as well.

I just read that Netbeans is able to run on top of it (http://www.advogato.org/article/955.html) (with some issues).

But I think an all free Java Development Environment isn't that far away
