USB 2.0 PCI Card

Hi,

Bought a USB 2.0 PCI Card for my aging motherboard (only have USB 1.1), but can't get it recognised.

Do I need to load any particular modules?

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

cheers

Re: USB 2.0 PCI Card

First, try lspci to see the status......

Re: USB 2.0 PCI Card

You may get better performance if you try a different pci slot?

Re: USB 2.0 PCI Card

Currently I'm not getting *any* performance. Nothing that I plug in gets recognised.

I would try another slot, but they're all occupied. (Slot 0 is inaccessible due to the large, overhanging fan I put on my graphics card)

4 claims to be usb 2.0, so I guess that's good?

Re: USB 2.0 PCI Card

Just tried usbview, and it does indeed show the usb 2.0 device, at 480Mb/s, and even lists the corect number of ports (5)

so why does nothing work when I plug stuff into it sad

Re: USB 2.0 PCI Card

Re: USB 2.0 PCI Card

Perhaps you need a ...hal...daemon in rc.conf..

Then the usb device appears in media....

Re: USB 2.0 PCI Card

Does dmesg show anything around the time you plug a device in?

If it shows something like "usb 2-1: device descriptor read/64, error -62", then we are having the same problem.

I have this problem with both uhci_hcd (onboard USB) en ehci_hcd (PCI USB-card) on the same system. The USB-drive I'm trying is recognised on my Debian-system at work (Testing, Lenny), but when I try an Ubuntu 7.10 live on the Problematic system, than I get the same error.

My guess is this is kernel-related. The Debian-system that is working uses an older kernel (2.22.2) than both Arch current and Ubuntu 7.10.

Zl.

Re: USB 2.0 PCI Card

I was quite surprised this morning to find the memory stick that I had left in last night, was now recognised, and I could mount it fine!
This evening however, it's not being recognised again!
There's nothing wrong with the PCI slot, and I've tried another USB 2 controller, which works absolutely fine. Think it's fair to say it was broken.

thanks for all the comments nonetheless!
