lua5.0.3 - is it possible to have this TOGETHER with 5.1.* ?

i would like to know wether its possible to have 2 versions of lua together on the system or not.
also i would like to know HOW lua5.0.* was compiled, because i am missing the etc/lua.pc file thats includet in 5.1.*(i think pkgconfig looks for this to locate lualib50)
