Video and DVD convertor

I am looking for a simple video encoder and DVD ripper with GUI. Some thing light weight.

Re: Video and DVD convertor

If you have MPlayer on your machine, you may want to take a look at AcidRip. It's in the repos.

Re: Video and DVD convertor

I've tried a lot of programs, but I always come back to K9copy for DVD ripping. It's one of the only qt-based apps I use--the other qt-app being K3b, for advanced burning...

For encoding video, ffmpeg is actually really easy to use once you get the hang of it. It's command line driven, but I highly recommend it.

Agreed. It's the only thing I use outside of MPlayer's -dumpstream and -dumpfile for encoding.

Enter ....pacman -S avidemux...for the download of that package.

Re: Video and DVD convertor

Thats what I usally use:

ripping

mplayer dvd://<title> -dumpstream -dumpfile <file.vob>

converting

avidemux

or k9copy for easy copying a dvd9 to a dvd5

Handbrake (from AUR) is also easy to use, but not GUI.

Re: Video and DVD convertor

there are many options:
tovid, k9copy, dvdshrink through wine, avidemux for total control, or mencoder and ffmpeg as cli.
i still use DVDShrink, because it's still the most convenient, but k9copy is the best linux native.

edit: tovid is a menoder/ ffmpeg simple script interface. i think it also has a python gkt2 ui, but actually i never used tovid. just took a short look at it.
