X wont start

Hi,

I did a Syu with pacman the other day and it updated lots of xf86 packages and now X fails to start sad.

Its Arch x64 with an nvidia 8800gtx.

have you tried the nvidia from source?
i had some issues a while back arch's nvidia wouldnt work for me but the source from nvidia.com did
i now use the nvidia from arch i dont know what the problem was i just know it works now

I think maybe the new xorg doesn't like your screen settings. I would try changing to something like this...

Screen        "Screen0" 0 0
Screen        "Screen1" RightOf "Screen0"

Or use LeftOf

I thought I read somewhere that Xinerama and Xorg 7.3 don't work well together and that you now have to use Xrandr to setup your screens.

Thanks it seems this was the problem and after endless looking around i found a fix here, if anyone else has the same problem:

The solution is to either downgrade nvidia drivers, or to turn Composite mode off in the xorg config, which fixed the Xinerama problem for me.

Does anyone know if this is a bug with Xorg 7.3  or is it down to dogi nvidia drivers?
