Mplayer and gnome

I guess it's because I am new.  I was able to do it before on a previous installation.  When I try to click on a movie file from the file browser, I won't open in mplayer.  I can drag and drop it in mplayer and it works, but not clicking.

I get failed to open file///.....avi

But I can open the files fine with mplayer alone.

Is this a bug in gnome or do I have something not configured correctly?

I am using gmplayer, but smplayer doesn't work either.

Edit:  Sorry again.  The videos I am trying to access are on an NTFS drive running with fuse and ntfs-3g.

Update: I copied a video over to my home directory on ext3 and am still having the same problem, so fuse and ntfs-3g eliminated as problem.

Re: Mplayer and gnome

I'm not sure I understand your question correctly, but if you right-click on your movie file, go to "Properties" then to the "Open With" tab, is Mplayer checked ?

Re: Mplayer and gnome

it's a small bug in:

/usr/share/applications/mplayer.desktop

just change it to:

Exec=gmplayer %F

Hi,
I've Exec=gmplayer %F and still have problems with opening movies with spaces in their name, any ideas?

Re: Mplayer and gnome

Problem solved,
I've found a copy of mplayer.desktop file in ~/.local/ folder

Have changed this and everything is fine.
