KDEmod - non KDE apps icons have disappered

I did an pacman -Suy yesterday, and pacman -Qe to cleanup I remove that one package (cannot remember which one). This morning I wanted to start eclipse and the icon has disappeared sad in fact most non KDE apps have no icon anymore.

I did have some locale problems, but I dont suspect that to be the problem. The programs are still installed, hence if I type "opera" in the term, Opera will start...

I'm running Arch64 with KDEmod installed - do you have any idea what might have gone wrong? Or at least how to "rebuild" the K menu?

Re: KDEmod - non KDE apps icons have disappered

you could try running kappfinder to search for non kde apps, but I'm not sure why some icons would dissapear. Some apps don't have icons unless you set one for it to use. You could right click on the kmenu button and open the menu editor to see if the apps have really dissapeared. Also you could backup your /home/username/.kde directory and then delete it and log out and back in again to let kde regenerate it to see if that fixes the problem.

Re: KDEmod - non KDE apps icons have disappered

I can start the programs from the console, but the icons in Kmenu has disappeared... Tried to remove .kde, still the same, if I edit Kmenu the entries which icons are missing, does not exist... I'm clueless here...

Even reinstalling the the programs does not recreate the entries?? (e.g pacman -R firefox; pacman -S firefox)

actually this is happening to me in xfce4 right now. i did a fresh install today on my old laptop and the xfce menu is basically empty, it has xfce stuff but even after installing firefox it wouldnt end up in the menu. from past experience this usually gets added by itself... does anyone know whats going on here?

You should be able to find out by looking in /var/log/pacman.log.

Re: KDEmod - non KDE apps icons have disappered

This is what I did the time the icons disapeared... As said, I had some locale problems when running pacman, but that shouldn't cause any problems.

Try removing the kdecache in /var/tmp.

The solution is just a forum search away smile

Check these threads:
