Regarding the pastebin

http://pastebin.archlinux.org

Over 19126 posts to the pastebin, and I'd bet most are spam ...... is there a way to integrate the pastebin to be used only when logged in to the forums ?  I used .htaccess on mine, but that's kind of a sledgehammer solution.  We went to punbb because it was faster, but we are letting bots make thousands of posts to the pastebin...... which uses some resources (granted not many)...... the spam IS annoying though.

Just a thought.

I see your point exactly, but taking the effort to gain a solution would waste more resources than the extra traffic.

Maybe Askimet can be used as a solution? They seem good at picking this stuff up

But it would rid the pastebin of spam big_smile

I'm sure my use of .htaccess is requiring apache to work double duty some times, but since it isn't pulling from a database to do it, the resources that takes are minimal, and the benefits for my sites outweigh the drawbacks for me.......... I hate spam cool

Is there any way to forbid entries that contain "http"?

Re: Regarding the pastebin

The pastebin version used in http://pastebin.com has a 'report spam' option for each post.

Phrakture, this may be interesting http://blog.dixo.net/2007/08/21/pastebi … -the-spam/

Re: Regarding the pastebin

this has been on my lower priority todo list for a long time. I might change out the pastebin software altogether. We shall see.

Re: Regarding the pastebin

Ok I implemented a 5-liner captcha like the forums. It'll probably stop most bots. If it turns out that is *doesn't*, there is a slight variation on the same method that is usually more effective, so let's keep an eye on it eh?

PS: is it just me or is our pastebin fugly? I'm gonna sit down and clean it up sometime soon.

Re: Regarding the pastebin

can u wait in case the arch colors change soon when the competition is done? maybe it would be best to match those colors. eg. if the pimp layout wins tongue

edit: humanitycheck seems to work here
