for ZSNES, you know there is a linux version which is pretty easy to install.  It's new this version.  just make sure you compile it with the prefix "--prefix=/usr" or it wont work.

What's wrong with the one in extra? All I had to do to get it working was just to type: sudo pacman -S zsnes

Re: What can Arch do? How to Ubuntuize Arch?

All I can say is stick with Arch, I too was a Ubuntu/Debian user, but put Arch on an old laptop and I am learning a lot about this great distro. Everyone here is right about reading the wiki, I too had some problems when I first installed Arch, but I asked questions here on the forum and I got pointed to this wiki and that wiki and it helped. Also, they are very good here at answering your questions as long as you are polite big_smile

Have fun with it wink

Re: What can Arch do? How to Ubuntuize Arch?

I also was an ubuntu user but with ubuntu i never understood what i was doing on the command line wink

After a few month you get used to it - then you will see the real benefits of arch (its the way it works, not just the rolling-release and i686-packages!).

The only thing you need is:

1.Beginners Guide
2. man [command]
3. Time/interest to learn

A racist is someone who is part of a highly organized system which is actively undermining, suppressing, oppressing,  or  even murdering those of another race, which they view as inherently inferior.
To comment that "Ubuntu" is an afrocentric name can, in no way, be interpreted as racist, nor can the opinion of disliking such names. roll I can't believe this is even an issue on a GNU/Linux help forum.

To address the OP; "Arch is what you make it."

Re: What can Arch do? How to Ubuntuize Arch?

krazybastid, I do not think that you have to Ubuntuize Arch. I thing you should Archuize yourself.

I mean, that if you really want to change your distribution from Ubuntu, to Arch, you have to get along with the system, to learn about it, and not to try to Ubuntuize it, but to try to keep the ways and the spirit of Arch Linux.

Regards.

I agree with Gruntz. Give it a little more time to rub into you. I read somewhere that programming languages (and I guess any language) are only good if they change the way you think. It's the same for operating systems in my opinion. And I just want to say that Archlinux is the best, for me at least, because it changed the way I see linux and how a linux distro should be.
I'll give you one example. I don't know if this is an effect of arch still not being one of the mainstream distros. But I find it very convenient that archlinux has almost everything you want in as little amount of repositories as possible. Unlike in other distros, ubuntu in your case, where finding the trouble of finding a package is made worse by finding a repository that serves it. (And that's assuming that all packages in those mountains of repositories are checked for malicious code or if they are even working).

Now why would you want to ubuntuize arch?
