[QUESTION] Another way for early graphics splash screen in Linux

This might be a stupid question but let me throw it out there anyway. Right before anything else, when booting archlinux an Arch logo is displayed in framebuffer for each CPU. Can't the same mechanism be used to show a large splash screen instead of the small logos?

That logo is built into the kernel.  But there are projects that use the framebuffer to provide a user-space bootsplash, e.g Splashy.

I understand that. I know of splashy and the rest of them. I was just wondering if this could be used for very early boot splash instead of fbcondecor.

Yes it can be. I tried that once. If you tweak size right, you can even get it so it only shows 1 line of text at the bottom, faking a fancy splash that only shows the current 'action'

It doesnt work great because it doesnt scale, requires a kernel recompile for changes, and the format is very limited.
