Dear Arch Linux users,
As some of you might know, I am developing an idea of having the Arch Linux "Core" ISO and the "Extra" package repository on one DVD. However I just noticed that the mirror which we may synchronize for our personal purposes (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Local_Mirror) is either not up to date or http://www.archlinux.org/packages/ is showing me the wrong package(s). This started to confuse me a little which led me to start a discussion about it.
I started synchronizing the "Extra" package repository with rsync -av rsync://distro.ibiblio.org/distros/archlinux/extra/os/i686/ /root/extra/
Before I considered downloading Arch Linux, I looked for packages that I normally use on GNU/Linux with the Arch Linux package search to see if Arch Linux has what I desire. One of those packages that I am talking about is XMMS. If you look for the package "xmms", you will not find it with the package search provded on the homepage. If you synchronize the mirror at distro.ibiblio.org however, you will notice that the package xmms-1.2.10-8.pkg.tar.gz was downloaded. XMMS is not in the "Extra" repository according to http://www.archlinux.org/packages/; how come it is still on the mirror at distro.ibiblio.org?
Of course it might be a silly situation like the mirror not being up to date, but I wanted to be sure about this just in case there is more to it. Thank you for reading this and please reply with your comments on this. Also I have question that I would like to ask, which is as follows: "Will it be possible for people to synchronize the official Arch Linux servers for personal use in the future?". Another question that has been concerning me as well is: "Will Arch Linux provide full DVD images through a protocol like BitTorrent to avoid server throttling?". As I see I am not the only one asking about this, and if there is already a definite answer to it then please excuse my slight ignorance.

Are the packages that actually are in the extra repo up-to-date? Depending on how ibliblio has configured the rsync server, it's possible that the files are not removed from the rsync server after they been removed from the repo.

Better use one of the French mirrors: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mirrors#France
I hate sigs. This one only exists to remind myself to get an avatar.

Yes, ibiblio's sync schedule means they are sometimes out of date, and if xmms and other deleted packages are still there, that's because of the way they operate, and not due to any oversight on our side. Use a different mirror, as byte suggests - I'd recommend Belnet myself.
