Laptop with external monitor

Hello!

A few weeks ago, my 2001 old desktop PC died (the motherboard). And now, i'm looking for a new one. A laptop. I've seen what i want. A 12' laptop. At home, it will be connected to a 17 TFT external monitor. The external monitor will duplicate the laptop screen.

As i have never had a portatil, i'm in doubt about this kind of thing. The graphic card will be an intel X3100. As far as i have read, there wouldn't be problems. Could you say your personal opinion, advise... or one simple: don't worry about that.

One more thing. Is posible to configure this way: connect the laptop to the external TFT. Power on the laptop. Power off the laptop screen, no the TFT. Close the laptop (it would be nice, that, closing the laptop, the screen will power off automatically). Keep working, the laptop is now a simple CPU.

By the way, as i'm not a english speaker, what is the correct name?: laptop, notebook, portatil...?

Thanks!!
