I'm looking for something similar to the OSX dock for linux.
Particularly, something exactly like awn -- but one doesn't depend on GL or useless fancy effects. Something in xlib or gtk2 would be a bonus.
Don't want to run a fancy one as my laptop's already underpowered and the percentage battery remaining accurately reflects minutes of power remaining.
Checked the AUR, googled, yet to find one. Anyone seen one, or am I writing my own?

I'd like such an application, too. awn is no option for me because of all the gnome-stuff.
@iphitus: If you write your own -- I'm there for tests.

Have you seen kooldock already? I used to use that when I fancied OSX like docks
It's in QT but you don't actually see anything but the icons (until you open preferences) anyway.

SimDock seems to be pretty much AWN looking without the need for composite:

Thanks Mikko777! I am installing it as I type. What's very nice is that simdock doesn't have so many dependencies. Let's see how it works out for me.
EDIT:
Tried out simdock. While being lightweight, it also has some problems. It does not sport the plethora of plugins that awn features. Also, it throws a lot of warnings when you run it and keep a closer look at the console you have started it from. Hm, perhaps I will try it again, this time with trayer to hold my systray. simdock does not have this on its own, too.

Why bother responding to a thread without reading it?

I've found this:

but don't know if it can dock apps.

Is there some reason for posting this 'snotty' message? Seems everytime I try to help someone, I get jumped by someone else. What gives?

There is an Adesklets launch bar thinger.
That might work for you iphitus.
adesklets + yab http://adesklets.sourceforge.net/verbatim/yab.html
You can even turn off the animations, if I remember correctly.

Theoden, you have been getting the raw deal lately, I've noticed it myself. If it helps you feel any better though, stonecrest is pretty blunt with everyone.... Boulder's a rough place.

BBdock may work, if you use a window manager with a slit.

adesklets + yab seems really neat. I'll try it out today.

cactus, please keep it on-topic.
On a sidenote: adesklets wont run because of some index-error python throws. Woohoo! Maybe a recompile will fix this. I will go into that later that day.
