kernel panic after latest upgrade x86_64

The latest upgrade including nvidia driver and kernel 2.6.23-8 resulted in kernel panic at boot, some garbage about ndiswrapper etc. I cannot recover now. Any ideas? I am going to try a live CD. Seems like it was not tested enough.

Re: kernel panic after latest upgrade x86_64

I second this.  As soon as I upgraded to the latest 2.6.23-8 kernel and rebooted I got up to the Loading UDev events module and it hit an error that spit out a Stack, Call Trace, Code, RIP, RSP, and CR2.  If it would be helpful, I can take a photo of the screen.

How can I recover from this?

Re: kernel panic after latest upgrade x86_64

I had a drive image a week old that I restored from.  I then attempted to to perform the same pacman -Syu upgrade and yet again, I'm back to the same issue.  Right after Udev uevents are attempting to load during boot up, the system dumps the same stack trace.

Help!

Re: kernel panic after latest upgrade x86_64

I restored from my image backup again and started installing the new packages one by one.  I narrowed it down to the latest kernel --> kernel26 2.6.23.8-1  This was the culprit.  I'd like to note that on my i686 machine, this kernel did not cause any issues.  Just on the x86_64 box..

Anyone?

Re: kernel panic after latest upgrade x86_64

I think there is an upgrade.. but I had to reinstall after backing up my data using Yoper live CD. But now wicd dos not work. It was working flawlessly with the AUR package, the old kernel and bcmwl5 driver from HP. The wicd from community does not work. It stops at trying to generate a WPA configuration file when I have selected WEP. I have tried to reinstall ndiswrapper (the new one 1.49-2) with the utils. Uninstalled and tried from sources from NDiswrapper site (both 1.49 and 1.50-rc1). Does not work with wicd. I got it working with wifi-radar with the 1.50-rc1 package and the same bcmwl5 driver.

The one thing I have noticed about Arch in the past 8 months that I have been using it - It is rock solid. But the last couple of weeks have been disappointing - reminding me of Yoper. And mine is a 64bit AMD. The kernel problem did not occur wih my 686 desktop.

Everything seems fine here running kernel26 2.6.23.8-1 with arch64 on a system with a PentiumD 900 series dual core.

This should be fixed with wicd-1.3.1-9 in extra. Let us know if it works for you. Also make sure you have dhclient and wpa_supplicant installed.

Re: kernel panic after latest upgrade x86_64

I also have these problems with booting but i thought it was a ndiswrapper-issue.

First, i had segfaults during boot (at the time loading ndiswrapper)- but sometimes (every third boot attempt) this error didn't occur.

Since todays update it got even worse and now it also has various errors while udev is loading modules.
Now my notebook boots at every tenth attempt  sad

I'll try to give more information as soon as i get home from work....

regards

Re: kernel panic after latest upgrade x86_64

An update to 2.6.23.9-1 did the trick for me.
