fluxbox disply too murky not very sharp[SOLVED]

Hi ppl,

Managed to get my X server configured and installed the fluxbox sucessfully and got it launch as well. But, the display is too murky i.e., it is not very sharp. I just followed the instructions here http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beg … de#Fluxbox

Could you tell some tweaks to make my display sharper.

Thanks.

If you're using a LCD-Display, make sure that the resolution in xorg.conf match the physical resolution.

What's the LCD model? 17" and 19" (non-widescreen) usually use 1280x1024.

xrandr | grep \* will tell you the current Xorg resolution.

Re: fluxbox disply too murky not very sharp[SOLVED]

you should use 1280 x 800 resolution, according to the info you just posted.

Bold added to emphasize the part that gave the info.
This should be added to your xorg.conf file.

Section Screen
         Identifier "Screen0"
         Device "Card0"
         ...
         Modes "1280x800"
EndSection

your xorg may look a bit different but I think you will find the part you need,
only add "1280x800" before any other resolution there and restart your x server
and it should be running smooth smile

Good Luck !

Edit :: PS. Oh, and of course should you have more problems with that, feel free
to ask away smile DS.

Re: fluxbox disply too murky not very sharp[SOLVED]

Thanks,

But, my "Screen" Section has this

  DefaultDepth 24
  SubSection "Display"
    Depth 16
    Modes "1280x800" "1024x600" "800x600" "640x480"
  EndSubSection
  SubSection "Display"
    Depth 24
    Modes "1280x800" "1024x600" "800x600" "640x480"
  EndSubSection
  SubSection "Display"
    Depth 8
    Modes "1280x800" "1024x600" "800x600" "640x480"
  EndSubSection

And still me xrandr shows the in using "1024x600" and does not show "1280x800" as an option at all. sad

Could these me som problem reading the xorg.conf or something????

And one more thing how do i get to display battery power status on my flux desktop?

Re: fluxbox disply too murky not very sharp[SOLVED]

oh, I thought they had fixed that in xorg lately. Maybe not.
There is/was a problem with Intel chipsets not getting the correct resolution in X a while back,
had this same problem with my macbook running both in arch and gentoo.
try this application

pacman -S 915resolution

it is in the community repo.
It is really simple to use and instructions can be found here Cliky!

Regarding battery status, you could use conky it's in extra repo. Docs are on their webpage

Hope you get it solved ! smile

EDIT: oh, and make sure you install the correct driver, i810 or intel. Can't really say which one is best
you will have to search the forum for that answer I'm afraid cool

Re: fluxbox disply too murky not very sharp[SOLVED]

Sooper! Thanks a ton. This looks fantastic. Here is what i did.

I installed

pacman -Sy 915resolution

Uncomment the MODES and RESOLUTION in the /etc/conf.d/915resolution file.

And added the 915 resolutions to the list of deamons. And restarted the machine.

before starting X i did an 'Xorg -configurre' and the moved the xorg.conf.new to /etc/X11/xorg.conf smile

and restarted with terrific results smile

But sadly conky has an error.

Conky: desktop window (5e) is root window
Conky: drawing to desktop window
Conky: drawing to single buffer
conky: timed_thread.c:90: timed_thread_create: Assertion `(start_routine != ((void *)0)) && (interval_usecs >= 50000)' failed.

whenever i start up the conky sad
