Hello and a Qgis-Qt4 issue

Hello, Arch community!

A few weeks ago I installed Arch (X86_64) and managed to get most things up running following a very steep but also very rewarding learning curve. I love the challenges that are 'just manageable (or 'googeable') thanks to the great Arch wiki's and the forum. Took me a while before getting sound and CD"s/DVD and usb storage media properly fonctioning. But actually I am enjoying a Dutch radio stream here in Bamako (Mali) through my Arch Box. cool

Since I am working a lot with GIS applications I was quite keen on getting Grass an Qgis installed. I succeeded in getting Grass 6.3-CVS installed. I did it the traditional way I normally used in Debian and Ubuntu. I wonder if I could have created a PKGBUILD file and use 'makepkg -i' after checking out the CVS? Is there an easy way to create a clever and working PKGBUILD file? roll

Unfortunately the Qgis package in community and AUR (0.8 Titan) is not the newest and cutting edge one and a bit old  (in AUR flagged as 'out of date')  The most recent version (0.9 Ganymede) is interesting since it has python support (with pyQt4) and an extended grass-toolbox. Therefore I tried to install Qgis through SVN and compile from source with cmake. Configuring with 'ccmake ..' went ok but I got stuck during compiling. I keep getting the error: "File generated with too recent version of Qt Designer (4.0 vs. 3.3.8)" This means that 'make' is still pointing to Qt3 files although Qt4 is correctly installed. The Qgis site gives a solution that didn't work for me (see http://qgis.org/content/view/17/75/ ) Can somebody give me usefull hint or should I address this issue on the Qgis site? My post is also meant to stimulate bright Arch users to get the Qgis package updated in AUR.

All in all: Arch developers, congratulations with this great distro with a truly innovative approach big_smile
