Hi,
I just installed wine to check out an app , but whenever I run wine or winecfg my whole PC freezes. Not just X, everything. I can't even use sysrq commands to get back into a console, the only thing that I know is running is mpd
.
The problem seems to occur when wine generates prefixes. Any ideas?

Talk about strange behavior in wine! I have some troubles with it, too. The most "fun" thing I had was when my MBR was totally trashed everytime I played Diablo 2 in Wine. Grub wasn't there, all I got was errors. Reinstall grub on hda fixed the problem (after using a boot CD). I could track it down to wine and it *always* happened. Other applications didn't make such problems though. OTOH, that only happened on Arch.
So wine is far from perfect but it's still the best I can imagine. ![]()

Trashing the MBR was years ago, and it impacted lotsa distros.
If the whole PC freezes, it could be a problem with the video driver.
