Compiz-Fusion on ATI card (Loads, but w/o window borders and effects.)

I just installed Compiz-Fusion on Arch Linux with the kdemod desktop environment.
When I load Compiz, the cube icon appears, everything blinks, the window borders disappear and nothing happens after that. The cube doesn't work, the windows don't wobble...nothing.
So basically the manager loads, but it's not doing its job.
I have the open source drivers installed for ATI, and the card is more than capable for running something like compiz.
Any help?

simple way - try to install fusion-icon or compiz-manager and see what is the error.

Can anyone confirm that Compiz-fusion can (at least in some cases) work with Catalyst drivers? I had the same issue and the error was to the effect that Texture-from-pixmap extension is not supported by the Catalyst driver.

I've had beryl working on this laptop before.
It's just a problem with some setting.
But I don't know what.

Here's what the terminal says when I run "Compiz --Replace"

[f@myhost ~]$ compiz --replace
compiz (core) - Fatal: No GLXFBConfig for default depth, this isn't going to work.
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0

I tried XGL, it doesn't run very well with the open-source ati drivers.
I can't find any proprietary drivers for it either, ati's site doesn't have them for linux.
and if I pacman -S fglrx, it doesn't find anything.

True, when I ran XGL on the open source drivers, compiz-fusion did work.
But only at about 5 frames per second.
Even XGL itself looked choppy on open source drivers.
So now my problem is finding proprietary drivers.

Sorry, I'm relatively a noob.
What do you mean by that?

Oh, wow. I'm surprised I didn't find that anywhere else.
Somebody needs to go into the Arch Beginner Wiki and change that. (It's still fglrx)

Alright, now that I have it installed, KDESplash crashes every time I start the xserver.
Is that bad, or do I need to switch to XGL now?

Re: Compiz-Fusion on ATI card (Loads, but w/o window borders and effects.)

K, first off, thanks for all of your help so far.
I worked on it a little bit more, and I got the cube to work, but the cube is completely white on 4 of the 6 sides.
The top and bottom of the cube look just fine.
I think it's because I'm not using copy for rendering method.
I can't find anything on google to tell me how to change the rendering method.
Does anybody know how?
