I have ThinkPad R61 but with Nvidia card, suspend and hibernate are not working from X(with nvidia drivers), from console works OK

If you don't want hibernate to disk, on the R60 at least Fn+F4 suspends the laptop excellently. No work required on my part (at least none that I did intentionally). Just thought I'd let you know. One day when I was bored, I just tried it, and to my surprise it worked. (Never thought it would, so I never tried before)

After setting up everything like written here: http://en.opensuse.org/NVidia_Suspend_HOWTO
Suspend to RAM works quite good, but still hibernate to disk is not resuming as it should (black screen).

I suggest that you try all the various tricks of the hibernate script (including swithctotextmode and dummyxserver). You can refer to the wiki article on Suspend to Disk for an overview and to 'man hibernate.conf' for all the details.

I'm using pm-utils, because I think it's now mostly developed, supported and documented.
I'll try hibernate in few days, if I don't find any other solution.

Hibernate provides many further options and possibilities. Pm-utils can theoretically do the same but you need to modify directly the scripts (which are not so documented). Moreover, the last commit in the svn of pm-utils for all distros (not the opensuse version, which works only for opensuse) is about 11 months old, so I would not define it so developed. I also do not know where it is possible to find support for it.
The hibernate script is not very maintained, but comes with a very very detailed documentation and the tuxonice community behind.
