"Everything is working! muhahaah " is not a valid post .Stop shoving it in our faces! ![]()
We will assume that you already Googled and searched the forums.Again, this isn't intended as a last resort cry for help.
Of course this thread makes sense mostly for laptops, where you buy everything preloaded. But maybe you own a desktop from your windows days (like me), or a keyboard with 53 different multimedia buttons!
Point? See this as "user feedback" in not-rant form. maybe if this goes somewhere it helps seeing where Arch can improve! (If it's Arch specific, that is).

I'll start:
I would have to say suspend/hibernate. For a laptop that's a major deal. If not for that, only my volume keys wouldn't be working (that I can remember of). And it's a pretty recent laptop. ![]()

Yup, its definatly suspend and hibernate.. Seems like everything else I've been able to get working without too much work. Networking was surprisingly easy on arch. But suspend and hibernate need some fixing
Offline
Suspend to RAM. (Hibernate works.)
...But suspend is a pain in the neck on many laptops, including this obscure Compaq presario 1200 that I'm using. It's more trouble that it's worth to me, so I'll live without it. My desktop runs perfectly. ![]()

At the risk of being redundant, SUSPEND AND HIBERNATE.
Suspend almost works. It's just that ACPI stops controlling my second CPU core after coming back. So I'm left with one core at, say, 800Mhz, and the other at 1.6Ghz. Fun.
Hibernate doesn't.

man, my Ipod won't work. It used to, but now I just can't get the damn thing to mount anymore.

At the risk of being redundantly redundant _reliable_ suspend to ram/hibernate.
buttons: File a bug at the kernel bugzilla or on our bug tracker, that one should be solvable.
originally it was wireless, then my sd card reader... now this hardware is completely compatible.

suspend2ram does not work (hibernate does though)

Occasionally after running shutdown scripts, the OS shuts down, but power isn't cut. Not really sure what causes this.
Also, my headphone jack broke a while ago and I had to buy a USB one, though that's a hard hardware problem...
Offline
one more for suspend to RAM
also
touchpad (super slow) if listening CD in amaroK (works with music from HD though)

Well, I just got a Dell Inspireon 640m from work, and installed Arch. I have to say, *everything* works after some tinkering with the pm-utils scripts, even suspend to RAM and hibernate. This is really sweet. Of course, it took the rest of my hair to figure out which hooks to use, and I had to write my own hooks. And this is actually my concern. Looking at the scripts, it is easy to understand that you cannot easily make this automatic, but how does Windows do that (if it does, hehe)???
Cheers,

i'm really shocked to see how many people use suspend/hibernate. tbh i had that function working for a while, then it broke - but i never use it so i could care less.
archlinux - please read this and this — twice — then ask questions.

I don't know what the problem is, but I can't connect via vpnc

I guess, the idea behind it is: what's the point of a laptop if you (almost) always have to be connected? If you can only work for half an hour before you have drained you battery?

nothing arch specific, but it would be great to have lightscribe working.

Ever try holding your desktop in your lap on the couch? ![]()
Seriously, there's plenty of reasons for a laptop other than just the fact that it has a battery. For example, I take mine to work with me, and at home I sit on the couch with the family while I log into work if I'm on call that night.
Now, to keep back on topic, I miss sound on my laptop. It's a Toshiba Satellite P105-6227, and it's got ACPI issues preventing the sound from working right.

Lightscribe has been working for months on Arch. Have you updated your system lately?

Everything is working! muhahaah
Ohh wait, pacman -Rsc {insert_person_I_hate_here} doesn't work. ![]()
Seriously now.
I think the only thing (Although not Arch Related) I miss on my life with Linux is my PDA to sync and me having to be so choosy with the hardware or gadgets I buy. But, I do not accept the Windows License anymore so I stopped using anything that requires Windows.

Suspend and hibernate used to work - until catalyst was released
But this is something to blame ati for, and i'm sure it will work again in any time.
The only thing that is really STILL a mess is wlan with a broadcom 4310. Ndiswrapper works awesome- but only on x86. On AMD64 it locks my notebook during boot.
Bcm43xx doesn't affect my notebook like this, but it sometimes has some problems connecting to networks. Some improvements here would be nice (it don't want to use ndiswrappper anymore) but that also isn't something to blame the arch developers for.

Not sure if this will be helpful but...
Is it a FAT formated ipod? I used to have major problems with mine - not that it wouldn't mount, but it took forever to mount (4-5 minutes sometimes). This is actually a bug and there is a kernel patch (fat_optimize-count-freeclus.patch) for this - if you're interested you can find it in this bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/133567.

My webcam. No linux drivers so it doesn't work at all. Also my printer doesn't work, which is really important. I have to restart to windows to print everytime

You're welcome. 4L is a good GUI for Lightscribe. It's available in AUR.
