"TIME OUT" message when using PPPoe

Hello

I have just installed ARCHLINUX on my asus laptop. The installation completed successfully, great.

Now I want to connect the laptop to internet by a ethernet modem (ADSL). The modem is not a router so I guess PPPoe have to be used instead of DHCPCD.

I run pppoe-setup, enter login, password, DNS etc.

Then, when entering "pppoe-start" to run the adsl connection, a TIMED OUT message come up.

How could I fix this problem ?

Thank you for your help!!

run pppoe-connect instead of pppoe-start to see what's the problem first

If it ain't broke, broke it then fix it.

Re: "TIME OUT" message when using PPPoe

Thx I tried with pppoe-connect. It says

Using interface ppp0
Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/0
LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
Connection terminated.
Modem hangup
pppoe: read (asyncReadFromPPP): Session 7355: Input/output error

then it continues displaying the same thing forever, just changing the 'session' number...

Re: "TIME OUT" message when using PPPoe

I had the same problem before 2 days and the problem was with my ISP.
Can you connect to internet using windows if you have one?
Or try some live cds to check whether the fault was with your ISP or with Arch?

Whether the DSL line in the modem is on?
