old compaq need help

I recently required an old compaq presario 5310US desktop. Yes it's old but it's stable. I tried installing arch on it last night but i failed. I don't know which graphics driver i should install on this old machine. I know for sure it doesn't have nvidia or ati. I think it has some sort of intel but i don't know. here is the official hp write-up on it. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docu … duct=93197

any help will be appreciated.

Re: old compaq need help

I always find everything I need on the Compaq/HP site, their docs are excellent. So three mouseclicks from the link you provided I found this, which leads me to believe you should install xf86-video-i810.

i tend to like using

hwd -e

whenever I'm unsure of the hardware in a system.

are you sure about this. what makes you believe that it's the i810 and not just the intel one?

Re: old compaq need help

Try both. I suggested the old one because that's really supposed to work. I think xf86-video-intel is more for the newer stuff.

I tried the i810 one today on it and it seems to want to frick up anyway. I installed xfce4 fyi.
