I have described this problem in other threads, but they described only similar situations. Here I want to specify what happened to my system. Maybe this could help someone else.
In the last days I experienced frequent freezes. When I left the system unattended for some time, I found it freezed, I could only move the mouse pointer but anything happened. Differently from other circumstances I read in the forum, I didn't need to reboot the system with the reset button. The system "unfreezed" automatically when some time had passed. Normally in a minute or a little more.
It appears I solved the problem switching off compiz-fusion. I use it through fusion-icon, starting it by a script put into /.kde/Autostart. Now, without 3D desktop effects, everything works fine.
I want to underline that only the i686 version of arch suffered this "bug", I have a 64 bit version working perfectly with compiz-fusion
