mime type db

Is there a way to get the GNOME and/or KDE MIME-type database set up if I'm not using GNOME or KDE? I'd like to be able to use the "open with" functionality in firefox, or "open" in fish.

Re: mime type db

i think firefox has it's own mimetype db in one text file or something like that, i remember that one time i set the .torrent files to open with ktorrent, but since i use fluxbox my only way to change the association to ktorrent to other was editing a config file in firefox
