LCD resolution problem [solved]

I have got LCD Samsung SyncMaster 226BW. I use VGA input. My monitor always starts with resolution 1360x768. Then I have to  xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode 1680x1050 -r 60.
Xorg.0.log says that both inputs are connected. Why?
How to configure my xorg.conf to start with resolution 1680x1050?

II) RADEON(0): Output VGA-0 connected
(II) RADEON(0): Output DVI-0 connected
(II) RADEON(0): Output VGA-0 using initial mode 1360x768

here is my Xorg.0.log

Re: LCD resolution problem [solved]

I have a very similar monitor, Samsung 225BW, and I use as modeline:

    Modeline "1680x1050@60" 154.20 1680 1712 2296 2328 1050 1071 1081 1103

if neither this works, have a look at this tool to generate a custom modeline.

I don't have any message about vga or dvi connected in Xorg.0.log but I have a nvidia card so maybe it's normal.

Re: LCD resolution problem [solved]

My modeline option worked good before Xorg or xf86-video-ati upgrade so if with nvidia card everything is ok probably ati driver caused my problem. Can I somehow downgrade ati driver?

I've tried your modeline and PreferredMode option Bogart but after restart  I got black screen and had to restart with my old xorg.conf.
Below is something interesting in xorg.log after my PC crashed.
How to add new monitor in xorg.conf or switch off DVI-0 input?

Re: LCD resolution problem [solved]

So you think it uses the DVI output even if you have no monitor connected? Could you post the output of "xrandr -q" when you start X @ 1360x768?

By the way, the modeline I just copied it from a post above. Maybe the correct one should be like this (not sure):

Modeline "1680x1050"  147.14  1680 1784 1968 2256  1050 1051 1054 1087  -HSync +Vsync

Re: LCD resolution problem [solved]

Strange, it seems to enable both VGA and DVI monitors, and since it seems to only be able to do 1360x768 in the DVI monitor it uses that resolution in the VGA too.

I'm not sure if this will work, but you can try. I created a separate DVI monitor section and disabled it. Back up your working xorg.conf and try with this one. If it doesn't work, look the logs for errors.

Re: LCD resolution problem [solved]

Bogart finally your modifcation of xorg.conf solved the problem. I only had to hash PreferredMode, ModeLine and NoDDC lines.
Thank you very. very much!

Re: LCD resolution problem [solved]

You can use gtf command for generation of modeline.
Sample:

gtf 1680 1050 60

You'll receve something similar:

# 1680x1050 @ 60.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 65.22 kHz; pclk: 147.14 MHz
  Modeline "1680x1050_60.00"  147.14  1680 1784 1968 2256  1050 1051 1054 1087  -HSync +Vsync
