Video playback distorted, web and dvd

HI,

When I try and watch a video file on the web (excluding flash) or a DVD I can hear sound but the image is distorted (moving bars of colour). Please could you advise me on how to fix this?

-I am using a laptop with the open-source driver (xf86-video-ati) and KDEMod.

-After installing firefox I also did this:
pacman -S flashplugin mplayer mplayer-plugin codecs
