Something so rare had happend. I installed virtualbox in Windows XP, then I created a virtual machine and run archlinux from this one. When the boot is finished I can see /dev/dvd, /dev/cdrom, etc, ie, I can install archlinux in the virtual machine. Looking any difference I run lsmod and compared it with the lsmod returned from the real installation. I found some differences: In the virtual machine there are 3 new modules loaded at the begining of the instalation: sd_mod, sr_mod and cdrom. So, at the normal installation I load them but I still can´t get the system mount my dvd drive...
Help is wellcome!

S-ATA optical drive? Unsupported chipset?
P35 is a state of the art motherboard. Try to find out whether it is supported under Linux at all or not.

Hello, me again
I'm trying to follow "http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fas … nux_System".
All ok at boot except for this: kernel panic
The last lines that I get booting with that method are:
ReiserFS: sda8: Checking transaction log (sda8)
ReiserFS: sda8: Using r5 hash to sort names
kinit: Mounted root (reiserfs filesystem) readonly
kinit: init not found!
kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init
HELP PLEASE!!!

Finally, I decide dont continue with arch for this time (maybe I try again when a new iso arrive). This because I couldnt get running my dvd drive (at ata port); at the begining internet (eth0) run well, but at the second boot (I change dhcp in eth0 interface at rc.conf) network cant start, I look if I was missing some module but not, all modules were charged. So thank for your help and good luck

Hello! I'm fighting with that problem too, since 3 days! I have MSI P35 neo2-fr and ata optical drive LG gsa-h20l. I palyed with many boot options like: ide-legacy, noapic, nolapic, acpi=off, nosmp, irqpoll, but it doesn't work. Archlinux installation don't see my drive . I'll try to do as faco said. Hope it'll work and I hope my drive will be automatically detected in new archlinux verrsions.
EDIT:
OK, archlinux installed
