Hey all!
I've been gentoo user since... oh well it was 2.5 kernel anyway, reason I switched from redhat was because I could install everything I couldn't on redhat (without fishing dodgy rpm's on rpmfind.net, that is). I've been happy puppy for years, but compiling stuff gets kinda old...
So I'm developer, and I couldn't care less about RMS, and I don't fancy Ubuntu (took me 15 mins to figure out I need to install *-dev packages of everything). I don't wanna try out fedora since I left redhat ages ago, out of principle ![]()
So... arch? ![]()

Welcome to the forum, zapporius. We have a number of people here who used (and use) Gentoo.

Yes. It's easy to install. Give it a try. Since you don't have to compile (although you can), you can have a system up and running with all the fancy gadgets in a few minutes.

I once used gentoo, too. The speed of arch is comparable to gentoo, but you don't have to compile everything! ![]()
Of course, you can compile all programs if you like.
I never missed gentoo on this distro (unlike on other distros)...

Yes, definitely try it out.
The rolling-release system is fantastic and building your own packages is straightforward. The versionpkg script for SVN builds is awesome. When I read "The Arch Way" on the wiki, I knew this was the distro for me. ![]()
