Hi, not sure where to post this one so it ends up here, also very aware it's beta
I am playing with VMware Server 2.0 Beta Latest Version: Beta | 11/13/07 | Build 63231 and got a few issues.
I already made a post on the VMware forum, just curious if anyone here knows what to do and got it working.
http://communities.vmware.com/thread/116558?tstart=0
Ill try not to make it too messy but Ill take you trough how I installed, since I am fare from sure I did it correctly.
Since there seem to be 64 bit support I went with this howto -
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Installing_VMware
- instead of the 64 bit howto that suggests chroot.
sudo mkdir -p /etc/rc.d/vmware.d/rc{0,1,2,3,4,5,6}.d
sudo ln -s /bin/lsmod /sbin/
sudo ./vmware-install.plAdded "xinetd" and "vmware" to /etc/rc.conf
Edited -
/etc/vmware/hostd/authorization.xml
- changing "root" with my "username".Disabled ipv6 in /etc/modprobe.conf -
# disable autoload of ipv6
alias net-pf-10 offsudo chmod 755 /.mozilla/firefox/7krj2u86.vmware-server/extensions/VMwareVMRC@vmware.com/plugins/vmware-vmrc-2.0.0-63231
Now I got the two following problems.
1.
Upon booting a system in VMware I get the error.
Cannot view virtual machine console.
The VMware Virtual Machine Remote Console plug-in failed to connect to your virtual machine.
Connection terminated by server
If this problem persists, contact your system administrator.

2.
On shutdown/reboot with VMware still running in the background I get -
Stopping Network [BUSY]
- and it just hangs there.
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng @iptables network firestarter netfs crond !mkvmdev @alsa @portmap @fam @dbus @hal xinetd vmware)
On a side note I also had the following with D-BUS -
Stopping D-BUS system messagebus [failed]

I was thinking about trying out some alternatives.
What I am going to do is install anything from Windows to gNewSense.

This is what I have been looking at so fare and will probably be trying out soon.
I was wondering if someone have a take on either one of the two above or any other virtualization software to try out?
