SliceHost now offers Arch

Hey guys,

Jared from SliceHost emailed me today and told me that due to popular demand, they now offer Arch as a distribution choice.

Re: SliceHost now offers Arch

Signed up for a VPS account. Will test it out.

[root@xell ~]# uname -a
Linux xell 2.6.18-xen #1 SMP Fri Nov 2 06:14:54 UTC 2007 x86_64 Dual-Core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 2212 AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux
[root@xell ~]# ls
[root@xell ~]# df -h
Filesystem            Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda1             9.4G  735M  8.2G   9% /
[root@xell ~]# cd /etc/

p.s. Initial is a 3 months $60 charge, but looks like if you cancel you get rest of it back.

Re: SliceHost now offers Arch

I started a Arch part of the slice wiki.  Figured at a minimum we can have a pointer to the Archlinux wiki.

Re: SliceHost now offers Arch

I've used Arch on a slicehost VPS for a long time now. I did a remote install, which was very easy to do thanks to their "rescue" stuff.

I left them however for a Swedish host (who sucked), so now I'm back with Slicehost and when I saw Arch among the distro options it made me really happy smile

Running: Arch Linux i686, x86_64, ppc

Re: SliceHost now offers Arch

Have noticed a hang in my slice.  Happens on the hour, but not at regular intervals.  I don't have any hourly cron jobs and the daily does not occur around that time.  Lasts a couple minutes and that's it.

Re: SliceHost now offers Arch

A bit offtopic, but how does slicehost compare to linode (wich also provides the option to install Arch)??

I am about to sign up for a vps account, and haven't decided yet (I'm between slicehost and linode)

Re: SliceHost now offers Arch

Slicehost runs Arch64, Linode runs Arch 32-bit. You might be happier with Slicehost's performance as I find Linode sluggish sometimes.
