Install from a usb stick

I tried both pages from the wiki and failed.
The one with the mksyslinux script get me booting into the arch boot screen same as normal ISO but then when I hit enter is loads a bunch of stuff and fails saying root fs cannot be created.  I tried adding a  delay, nogo.

Re: Install from a usb stick

I assume the two wiki pages you mean are:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Usb … ch_Install
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ins … _USB_stick

These are very similar - they should be merged.

I tested the second one with the latest ftp-install test iso (Archlinux-i686-2007.11-0.4.ftp.iso) and it seemed to work here - except that the MBR must be installed, e.g. after step 7:

dd if=/usr/lib/syslinux/mbr.bin of=/dev/sd[x]

Also, the -s option to syslinux should normally not be required.

Re: Install from a usb stick

Thank you very much for raising this thread. Just tonight I was going to install Arch64, but my CD drive was toast.

The second link (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ins … _USB_stick) worked *perfectly* after I'd tweaked about my bios settings to boot off USB.

Arch64, here I come smile
