GTK theme colors

Ok. I feel kinda bad for opening a topic here, but I'm not into gnome gtk and stuff..

Here is the thing:
I installed Kdemod and.. afterwards decided to have a look on GNOME.
Installed it, but no matter what gtk theme I chose, it always has grey-ish colors. I don't think that's supposed to happen. But I have no clue on why this is happening and how can I make the themes show the right colors.

Could anybody help ?

Thank you, in advance.

Re: GTK theme colors

Sounds weird for me. The only issue I had was broken fonts, but with the wrong color, no yikes(

Re: GTK theme colors

Do you have the following packages?  gtk, gtk-engines, gtk-smooth-engine, gtk-theme-switch, gtk-theme-switch2, gtk1-engines, gtk2, gtk2-perl and gtk2-themes-collection?  Some of those are for gtk1 and some are for gtk2 and I think Gnome uses gtk2 by default.  How are you switching themes?  Are you using the Gnome dialog boxes, because you can also run "switch" to switch gtk1 themes and "switch2" to switch gtk2 themes.

Great things come in tar.xz packages.

Re: GTK theme colors

Try uninstalling kdemod-gtk-qt-engine (that is if you have it installed).

If this does not work, take a look at the .gtkrc* files in your home directory. Most definitely some gtk settings are saved there by kdemod, and gnome loads them.

Re: GTK theme colors

Thank you, guys.

Well, I uninstalled kdemod-gtk-qt-engine and installed gtk-theme-switch[2]

Now when I change the theme under Appearance prefs in GNOME it DOES change the widgets and its colors, but the color of the titlebar background still is grey for all themes. When I change the gtk theme with "switch2" all the colors are loaded correctly.

What should I look for?

If you don't know which file you need or what to do with it, easiest way is to do

rm ~/.gtkrc*

as your user. With this command you will erase all gtk settings so you do need to re-apply them (make a backup if you want first)
