VLC sound has static

Recently, I think after the most recent kernel upgrade, VLC has had audio static in all the videos I play. These same video files will not have the static if they are played with MPlayer. Running VLC from the terminal shows no errors. Any suggestions on how to fix this, or any others with a similar problem?

Re: VLC sound has static

Have you tried rebuilding using ABS.  That seems to fix most VLC issues...

Rebuilt with ABS, but the audio still has static.
