toshiba s1700-200 - disassemble

A toshiba Satellite S1700-200 was offered to me.
It has a jammed cd drive and a tiny 5gb HD. Useless, unless I can crack it open and replace these two parts.

I'm having a hard time finding it's manual... I'm looking for instructions on how to disassemble it without causing any harm.

The objective of all this is simply install Arch on the lappy and give it some use.
(if there is a way of installing Arch without a cd-drive and without having do disassemble the laptop do tell big_smile - it has Windows 2000 installed btw)

Cheers!

paperclip won't budge the CD drive open?

Arch can be installed from USB, but of that age, if it has a usb, it probably won't boot from it.

Re: toshiba s1700-200 - disassemble

I had to partly disassemble my Toshiba Satellite M40X a few weeks ago. You need to use google to find the correct guide (do not try to do it without any guide!). Use these keywords: toshiba stallite sevice manual and add you model number. You should be able find something like this. It's quite possible that you'll not find exactly the same model but you should be able to use any guide for a similar model.
