Congratulations to UberPenguin, Arch's newest Millionaire.

UberPenguin has been folding steady for a long time, 2.5 to 3 years is my guess, and I am really glad to see UberPenguin reach this milestone.

Cheers Uber!

Re: F@H Arch Linux Team - Recruitment & Stats thread - HELP US !.

My folding box broke down for a week without me having the time to fix it.

It is back up and running now, and I've added a 3GHz C2D box at work as well to help me catch up with missed folding.

I haven't lost my mind; I have a tape back-up somewhere.

Re: F@H Arch Linux Team - Recruitment & Stats thread - HELP US !.

Been folding for Arch since the beginning here...not that I've added much to it. Username for folding is "llib" although I just recently got a Nvidia 9800GT which should really help me get some more PPD.

Also wondering if anyone here could try out the "foldingathome-gpu-nvidia" package I put up in the aur today. After much work and forum crawling I managed to put it together today, along with two other packages that should make running the GPU2 client via wine as easy as typing "yaourt -S foldingathome-gpu-nvidia"

Instructions for running it is on its package page in the aur. Its for Arch x86_64

I have it running on my comp just fine and have had it running all day, just want to see how it goes for others.

Re: F@H Arch Linux Team - Recruitment & Stats thread - HELP US !.

Nice work whaevr,  I'll have to give it a try soon.

I run two Nvidia 9800 GTs on two different Mother Boards with Arch 64 and Wine.  One has a Phenom II so I run two smp clients on it also.  The other is a dual core Brisbane, and I run one smp client besides the GPU client.  Those two units crank out a lot of work units.

just curious, but about how many ppd are you guys getting out of your 9800GTs running through wine? I will be trying out the folding-gpu package when i have a little time.

Re: F@H Arch Linux Team - Recruitment & Stats thread - HELP US !.

Here is a web page at Stanford that sumarizes what users are getting with the different GPU's.

I don't know exactly how many PPD I am getting on my 9800 GTs because I haven't had time to figure out how to use FAH-MON on the WINE based client yet.  Of course, how many PPD you get depends on which Work Units you happen to get.  I figure I am getting between 4500 and 5000 PPD from my Arch/WINE based 9800GTs.  I also have a 8800 GT and a 9800GTX running on Windows XP machines.  I actually believe using the GPU client on Linux/Wine is more effecient and runs faster.  I don't have any benchmarks to back that up.  Just a gut feeling based on how many minutes per 1% steps, so take that with a grain of salt.

Feeding data to the GPU doesn't take up much CPU usage at all.  Since you still have the vast majority of the CPU's potential available, the beauty of running Arch 64 is that you can run SMP clients in addition to the GPU client.  As stated above, on my Phenom II machine, I run the GPU client and 2 SMP clients.  If I get the right combination of 3 work units, I have seen as much as 7500 to 8000 PPD from this one computer.

Re: F@H Arch Linux Team - Recruitment & Stats thread - HELP US !.

@Pudge
I just pointed Fah-mon to its work directory just like normal. Which for me since I'm using my own package tongue was /opt/fah-gpu/
With the 353 credit WUs I get  ~5000 PPD
screenshotbenchmarksfahlb9.th.png

With the 511 credit ones I get about 3131 PPD
screenshotbenchmarksfahqp4.th.png

Then theres the odd one I got that was worth 384 credits, I got 4046 PPD on that.
screenshotbenchmarksfahbu9.th.png

I <3 this thing. ^^

I haven't tried overclocking it either, its at stock right now. Running at its highest 57-58C on the 511 WUs around 54C on everything else.

Edit:
Also for cpu usage its about (for me) 6-9% on the fast Wus and about 5-7% on the slower WUs. Although I don't have a Phenom sad I have an Athlon X2, so your mileage may vary.

Edit:edit: tongue
Well according to NVClock, my Gpu is currently -379C...thats -106 Kelvin! Didn't realize stock cooling could cool that well...how do you go below the absolute absence of thermal energy?
screenshotnvclock08betasg0.th.png

AnotherEdit:
Updated the foldingathome-gpu-nvidia package, it now supports up to 4 separate GPU clients instead of one. Added new instructions on its package page.

NitroXFX;

Congratulations on becoming a Multi Millionare, passing the 2 Million milestone.

whaevr;

Thanks for the tip on the updated GPU client.  I'll have to check it out.  I tried pointing Fahmon to my gpu folding directory, and Fahmon froze.  Tried it twice with the same results.

Re: F@H Arch Linux Team - Recruitment & Stats thread - HELP US !.

Well I am using the svn-version of Fahmon...I made a pkgbuild for it a while ago and I put it up in the aur.

Try that?

Bit of an update:

To those of you using the foldingathome-gpu package:

The nvcuda wrapper has been updated recently, and I would strongly suggest you update yours. (Latest version is in aur) neglect of this update will cause immediate EUEs when trying to use the new core 14 that will be released monday.

yaourt -S lib32-nvcuda

or

yaourt -Syu --aur

Keep on folding! tongue

Re: F@H Arch Linux Team - Recruitment & Stats thread - HELP US !.

whaevr, Ive tried to use your gpu package but it depends on 'wine' and there is no wine package for x64. So i tried taking it out of the PKGBUILD. since i had wine installed already.. But i get this over and over.

[15:45:52] Working on queue slot 01 [March 31 15:45:52 UTC]
[15:45:52] + Working ...
[15:45:52] - Calling '.\FahCore_14.exe -dir work/ -suffix 01 -checkpoint 15 -verbose -lifeline 8 -version 623'
GuardedRun: run failure in DynamicWrapper
[15:45:56] CoreStatus = 75 (117)
[15:45:56] Error opening or reading from a file.
[15:45:56] Deleting current work unit & continuing...

So i am guessing i am doing something wrong. But i don;t know what since i had to do some stuff manually.  Its a pity i coudnt just  do it all with a yaourt -S foldingathome-gpu-nvidia.

Re: F@H Arch Linux Team - Recruitment & Stats thread - HELP US !.

Hi guys, I'd love to be able to contribute to the Arch folding effort but I'm having difficulty getting the client to run. It gets as far as this:
NNODES=8, MYRANK=0, HOSTNAME=myhost
NNODES=8, MYRANK=1, HOSTNAME=myhost
NNODES=8, MYRANK=3, HOSTNAME=myhost
NNODES=8, MYRANK=4, HOSTNAME=myhost
NNODES=8, MYRANK=5, HOSTNAME=myhost
NNODES=8, MYRANK=2, HOSTNAME=myhost
NNODES=8, MYRANK=7, HOSTNAME=myhost
NNODES=8, MYRANK=6, HOSTNAME=myhost

and then there appears to be no further progress, even after leaving it overnight. I've tried using a fresh install of the folding client but to no avail. I didn't have this problem with OpenSuSe or Kubuntu so I'd be interested to know why I'm having it with Arch.

Re: F@H Arch Linux Team - Recruitment & Stats thread - HELP US !.

@jun

See the /etc/hosts section of the Arch beginners guide

Be sure to check out the Purple section:

Note: This format, including the 'localhost' and your actual host name, is required for program compatibility! Errors in this entry may cause poor network performance and/or certain programs to open very slowly, or not work at all. This is a very common error for beginners.

An improperly configured /etc/hosts file will cause the problem you are experiencing.  In Arch, you have to configure just about everything.  OpenSuSe and Kbuntu probably configured the /etc/hosts file for you.

Thanks. Everything's working fine now smile but my 4850 is still sitting idle. Any ideas when ATI support will appear?
