Well this is odd, I am using xfce4 and ever since I restarted I can't view any png file. All the files come up as blank pictures even though they where there before the reboot. I should add that all the png files are still in the same folder and still has the exact same size but I just can't view any.
How do I go about fixing this?

bump, I still got this problem and would like not to have to re-install arch.
No body even has an idea where to start looking?
frustrating to know the only way I can fix this is to re-install???
edit: when I do a rick click on a png file and check the properties the image type and image size tag under the image tab come up as unknown. But, if you do the same for a jpeg it comes up as it should. Whats going on here, how come png files are causing so much trouble after a reboot?
Somebody please have an idea before I format this drive by the end of the day. I have racked my brain enough and I guess I am just to stupid to figure this one out.
does this help?

WOW, I can't believe how much help I am getting so once again I will bump the thread.
Come on, this really can't be that hard. Just a few pointers in the right direction. Maybe some help as in what I can do to look for the solution.

WOW, it's almost like no one knows how to help.

What are you using to view the images? If you have Imagemagick installed on your machine, try this:
display 'vid:<your_image.png>'
With replacing <your_image.png> with a real image.

Well I figured out how to fix it on my own, now I am wondering why this happened. Seems FS corruption is the root of my problem.
funny though, I use ext3 w/ journal. Corruption is supposed to be a thing of the past.

I wish! I found a near guaranteed way to create file system problems for EXT3 a while back.
I do a lot of encoding of videos from raw frames with FFmpeg. I found that if I force kill the encoding process with CTRL+C instead if FFmpeg's default 'q', it would sometimes corrupt the file that was open. Eventually this would get to the point were fsck would fail on the sectors where these images were. It would always repair itself alright, but it's a major hassle all the same. I don't do that anymore!

well the funny thing is though, until I actually re-installed the png lib's the file system check on boot up was ok. As soon as I re-installed the lib's and rebooted it came up with an error and that error was fixed. Once this happen all my other png files where ok to view, except that one folder containing nothing but corrupted png files.
But, I am still in awe as to how this all happen. I don't recall doing anything out of the ordinary to have this happen. I did install enemy territory, but that has not caused for anyone else, so why would it have caused me a problem. Plus enemy territory works, so no problems with the install.
Anyway, this is probably a once in a lifetime event, at least lets hope so.
